All recreational teams shall be made up of residents of the Worthington Local School District or who attend schools within the Worthington School District.
All Travel and Select sports are exempt from this regulation in accordance with the following formula. Travel sports included in this provision are WYB Travel Soccer, Travel Basketball, Travel Baseball and Travel Softball. The Program Director for each Travel sport must provide the Board of Directors the names and addresses of those persons cut by their coaches when out of district players are used and submit a full roster of all teams on or before the Board Meeting prior to the start of their competitive season. The exception to this is that WYB Travel Soccer is required to submit a full roster for each team by November 1 and May 1 of each year.
Each Travel/Select Program shall be comprised of a minimum of sixty percent (60%) Worthington Residents for all programs that pay fees to that Travel Sport and that use Worthington Parks and Rec Facilities at the WYB Rate. The WYB Director for each Travel program must provide the residency report by team prior to the start of their competitive season. High School aged Teams are subject to OHSAA rules, therefore these teams shall not have more than the maximum number of Worthington School District residents as allowed by OSHAA per roster. It should be understood by any travel program that have teams or programs made up of less than 75% Worthington Players will be subject to Non-Resident Fees (See following "Facility Fee Expectation" section) for field usage where such fees are charged.
Travel sports will be subject to an annual review/audit and if found "out of compliance" with WYB Policies are subject to a review by the Executive Board and, if deemed appropriate, measures up to and including removal from WYB at the end of their current season.
Exceptions to Eligibility
Exceptions to the eligibility policy (as stated within the Mission Statement) may be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Requests of such exceptions must be presented to the officers of the Worthington Youth Boosters. When such a request is approved by at least three of the four officers, that request will be presented for the consideration by the full board. The request will be granted upon the approval of a simple majority of the members present at the next regular meeting. The Travel programs will be excluded from this process since specific criteria already exist to govern the participation of out-of-district children in these programs.
Recreation, Travel and Select Teams
Definition: To be considered a “RECREATION TEAM", the team must meet the following definition:
"Recreation" is an intraclub or interclub league where the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting or any similar process to roster players to a team on the basis of talent is prohibited; the league accepts any and all eligible participants (Worthington Residency or Private Schools within Worthington School boundaries); and a system of rostering players is used to establish a fair distribution of playing talent among all teams. The recreation league may elect to declare or allow an age group, division or team as eligible for competitive events such as ‘All-Star’ games, ‘Meets’, tournaments, or scrimmages.
Teams which do not meet the definition of a "recreational team" will be considered a "travel (select) team.”
The minimum age league that Worthington Youth Booster teams can compete in shall be an eight (8) year old league.
The minimum age for all participants in Worthington Youth Booster travel sports shall be seven (7) years old by the first game of the season with the exception of our Gymnastics program where participation by younger gymnasts is dictated by skill level.
Number of travel teams, selection process and coaches shall be defined by the program committee and reviewed by the Board of Directors.
Program Directors and Coaches/Trainers that are compensated must have their compensation arrangements reviewed by the Board of Directors (ie. Gymnastics, all travel sports, all rec sports).
Tryouts are to be open for all travel teams.
Programs for new age groups need the approval of a simple majority of the full board before beginning operation.
Any exceptions to this policy needs to be voted on by the Board of Directors and approved by a simple majority of the Board.
The name and programming of each Recreation/Travel/Select program must be reviewed by the Board of Directors.
