In 1996, Worthington Youth Boosters started a middle school field hockey program. It began as a way to introduce girls to hockey at an earlier age. It also helped level the playing field with private schools that, until then, had enjoyed a monopoly on the High School State Tournament. In 2009, WYB expanded to include a developmental program for 4th through 6th grade athletes. In 2015, the 6th graders began learning more team skills and participating in several competitive events: sometimes joining teams for the local play day, or traveling to neighboring communities for a youth scrimmage. In 2018, a goal-keeping specialist was added to the coaching staff. In 2019, WYBFH joined the #GrowTheGame field hockey movement, introducing a low cost FUNdamentals program for 2nd and 3rd graders. 2021 marks the first season with 6th graders joining the middle school program.
