Grades 2 & 3
A program for our youngest athletes, this beginner program serves as an introduction to field hockey through FUNdamentals and small games.
- This group will meet on Saturday mornings for 45 minute sessions. Should turf become available, this program may move to Sunday evenings.
- Sticks will be provided. Shin guards recommended. T-shirt included with registration.
Grades 4, 5 & 6
Our 4th-6th grade players enjoy learning the FUNdamentals of field hockey, building skills through small games, and exploring the basics of offense and defense.
- This group plays 3 times per week on grass: practices Monday & Wednesday evenings, and Saturday morning scrimmages; 1 hour each. Should turf become available, this program may swap a day to play Sunday evenings on turf.
- Field hockey stick & safety equipment required. T-shirt included with registration.
- 6th graders have the option to play in this rec format, or in the competitive format of the middle school program.
Grades 6, 7 & 8
Middle school players grades 6-8 enjoy FUNdamentals, skill-building, and competitive play. Read about the MS Field Hockey Team Expectations.
- Team format with 10+ games throughout the season vs central Ohio middle schools and clubs. Registration numbers determine the number of teams and roster assignments.
- Teams generally play 4 times per week. Tuesday & Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sundays on turf. Practices are 1.5 hours long, games are 1 hour. Practices, especially early in the season, include conditioning activities.
- Stick, safety equipment, and uniform are required.
- Field hockey is not offered through any of the WSD middle school athletic departments; this is the feeder program for both Worthington high schools.
